Pitch by pitch, the Coppell baseball team settled into rhythm, using a quick defensive start and early offensive to take control from the first inning. By the end of the night, Coppell owned the game.

In the District 5-6A matchup, Coppell shut down Denton Braswell, 7-0, at Coppell ISD Baseball/Softball Complex controlling the game from start to finish while holding the Bengals scoreless on Friday.

Braswell opened at bat with senior batter Sebastian Flores leading off, but Coppell’s defense held tight, recording three outs to quickly switch sides and set the tone.

Coppell’s offense struck early, as senior infielder Jackson Floren singled and later scored off senior pitcher Aaron Malik’s double.

“Our pitching was on point and our hitting went great.” Coppell coach Armando Garza said.

In the third inning, Coppell extended its lead as junior outfielder Suhoon Cho doubled. Soon after, senior Luis Perez followed with a hit that brought Cho home, making the end of the third inning, 6-0.

“We need to carry that hitting,” Coppell senior catcher Cain Frosk said. “When we keep hitting like that we are going to win every game.”

From that point on, Coppell maintained control for the remainder of the game.

“We are on a six-game winning streak so we want to keep that momentum going strong for the next game,” Garza said.

The Cowboys play Flower Mound on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
