The Coppell girls track and field team delivered at the Class 6A Region I Area meet on Friday at Denton Braswell, qualifying 11 athletes for the regional meet on May 1-2 at UT-Arlington.
Coppell senior Sophia Williams set a school record in 100-meter dash with a time of 11.47 seconds and 200-meter dash with a time of 23.42 seconds. Coppell junior Hannah Polito placed third with a time of 11.59 seconds, qualifying her for the regional meet.
Coppell junior distance runner Maya Easterwood placed fourth in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:04.85 minutes, and second in the 3,200-meter race with a time of 11:13.69 minutes. Easterwood qualified for regionals.
Coppell sophomore Bailey Johnson narrowly missed regional qualification, placing fifth in both the 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles, earning her a spot as a regional alternate.
The Cowgirls’ relay teams displayed endurance and speed. The 4×100 relay team of seniors Ella Corry, Williams, junior Polito and sophomore Janiah Merritt snagged first place in 46.14 seconds, setting a new school record. The 4×200 relay team with senior Corry, juniors Taylor Davis and Polito, sophomore Merritt also secured first place, while the 4×400 relay placed seventh.
In field events, Davis led the high jump group with a second place finish (5’4”), followed by sophomore Da’Nyah Gilmore in third place. Junior Vivian Pargas placed third in pole vault (11’0”), and Mia Schuller finished fourth. All qualified for regional competition.
Coppell senior Ainsley Bramer branded her first place position and set a new school record marking 47’10” feet. Coppell junior Avery Easterling followed with second place, throwing 40’10.25” feet.
The top four competitors in each event will move on to the regional meet, while fifth place holds alternate positions.
