Point by point, the energy built inside CHS Arena, as the Coppell volleyball team fed off every roar from the crowd. Every hit slammed harder, every celebration grew louder, and by the end of the night, Coppell owned the court. 

Behind explosive serves and unrelenting defense, Coppell swept Denton Braswell in the District 5-6A match on Friday in CHS Arena, 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-12).

The Cowgirls open the first set in full control, staying dominant the entire set. Firing quick powerful hits and sharp tips across the net that led the Bengals to fall behind quickly in the first set. 

“Swinging hard was the key, they were not pressing really well so it was easy to win the first set,” Coppell senior middle blocker Zoe Olson said. 

The second set began neck and neck, both teams held in with long rallies. But after a fierce spike by Coppell junior middle blocker Finley Penniman, the set started to shift igniting a run that led the Bengals struggling to keep up.

“We were really focused on going for the ball because they were trying to take a lot of the balls we were not getting, but we changed our mindset and started going for the balls and it started to turn out our way,” Coppell junior middle blocker Finley Penniman said. “We worked a lot on being smart and that really helped into actually getting a lot more kills and putting the ball in areas we knew they were not going to be.” 

In the third set, the Cowgirls maintained their momentum, outplaying Braswell on both offense and defense, securing a clean sweep.

“The girls worked really hard on their defense and offense, tips and roll shots helped a lot during this game and that’s something we want to see in the next game,” Coppell coach Robyn Ross said.

The Cowgirls play at Flower Mound on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
