In a night defined by high energy from players, echoes of sneakers and cheers reverberating, the crowd watches the scoreboard inching closer to the final points.
The Coppell volleyball team made it clear after taking the lead from the first serve, sweeping Little Elm in 3 sets on Friday in CHS Arena, 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-9). The Cowgirls are now third in District 5-6A (7-3).
During the second set, the defense from the Cowgirls became more alert from the Lobos’ fierce hits. Little Elm served out of bounds during match point, the Cowgirls winning the set 25-19.
“We had greater pursuit of the ball and each point, and it definitely added momentum to the game, keeping us from falling into a slump,” Coppell junior middle blocker Taliah Ellis said. “Some of the highlights were watching us put into play things we’ve been working on throughout the week.”
The Cowgirls conquered the first set with strong serving runs and quick transition. They maintained a steady difference over Lobos, unable to keep up with Coppell’s lead.
“We kept it strong especially during the first set and stayed consistent by working on our off speed ‘short game’ leading up to today’s game,” Coppell senior setter Emma Pehl said.
In the third set, Coppell capitalized on Little Elm’s defensive errors and rhythm at the net.
“We were more confident in this game in my opinion and I think that’s why we pushed through really well,” Coppell senior setter Emma Pehl said. “We made good decisions for the match and this win is deserving.”
The Cowgirls play at Lewisville on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
