With the District 5-6A season completed, the Coppell volleyball team takes on Allen in the Class 6A Region I bi-distrct playoffs on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Hebron.
The coaches have been dedicating time to bring new plays to the team.
“We as coaches have studied film and gone to watch Allen play,” Coppell coach Robyn Ross said. “We are setting up practices so that our girls are executing what they will need to on Thursday.”
Beyond winning titles, the coaches have set other goals and expectations within their team to reinstill the meaning behind the game.
“We have spent this season working on the mental side of the game to complement the physical side,” Ross said. “We will prepare for everything we know Allen can do and then the girls will have to execute. We will try to run a more non-textbook offense to keep Allen guessing and as far as defense goes, we will have to be all over the court and very defensive minded the entire match.”
Ross thinks the team’s personal connection with each other is just as valuable as court success.
“What I love as much as on the court success is what the older girls are doing to make the younger players feel valued and appreciated,” Ross said.
Beyond the Cowgirls’ disciplined practices, the players bring positive team chemistry into the postseason.
“I love the atmosphere and energy this team has brought to the program and how they celebrate each other’s success,” Ross said.
