Coppell shortstop Mallory Moore hits a single at Coppell ISD Baseball/Softball Complex on Friday. Plano West defeated the Cowgirls, 8-1.

Tied at 1 in the top of the fifth inning, Plano West sophomore designated hitter Abby Chunn hits a single through the infield to score junior outfielder Elyse Mikes, and sets the lead for Plano West the rest of the night.

On Friday night, Plano West defeated the Cowgirls, 8-1, at Coppell ISD Baseball/Softball Complex.

After staying tied for four innings, Plano West broke the tie with four runs in the top of the fifth inning.

“I think that the four-run inning took some energy out of our dugout,” Coppell coach Robbie Moen said.

Some notable players included junior pitcher Kayla Shannon and junior catcher Riley Warren who had an RBI single in the bottom of the third to tie the game.

“Kayla did a great job pitching in the first five-innings,” Moen said. “She mixed her pitches, located well, kept some of Plano West’s big hitters off-balance and gave us a chance.

The Cowgirls play Lewisville on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

“We have to get a better mental approach to be able to sustain the whole game,” Moen said. “We need to keep going to work every day, because we have five district games left and everybody is ahead of us.”
