Coppell sophomore midfielder Summer Chen receives a pass at Buddy Echols Field on Tuesday. Coppell girls soccer plays against Lewisville at 7:30 on Friday at Buddy Echols Field.

Feeling content and connected as a team, the Coppell girls soccer team keeps its vision set on victory tonight against Lewisville at 7:30 p.m at Buddy Echols Field.

Since the start of the season, controlling game possession and creating an offensive identity have been prioritized.

“We have continued to develop an identity offensively, being able to put balls in the net on a consistent basis,” Coppell coach Craig Able said. “We have talked a lot about controlling possession in the game, controlling the tempo of games and were at eight straight games with almost 60 percent possession. That has been key for us and our success in the way we do things and operate as a team.”

Tonight’s strategy is to score early against Lewisville. Coppell enters 11-1-1 overall.

“We want to be able to put away a couple of goals in the first 15 to 20 minutes of the game and then dominate and control possession,” Able said. “We want to score early to make sure we dont let them stay in that game and we don’t want them getting comfortable or set in the game.”

To prevent any mental obstacles, the team is focusing on mental engagement and a sense of control.

“We are making sure that we can focus on the things that we can control, not let the heavy legs, the fatigue set in,” Able said. “The best way to do that is to find people by passing through the third and controlling that possession aspect of the game.”

Able hopes his team continues to have positive morale.

“We just continue to preach and focus on things that we can control like our attitude and our effort to remind each other that we love each other and that’s what’s important,” Able said.
