The Coppell boys soccer team is gearing up for its second official game of the season against Plano West. This is the first District 6-6A game of the season and will take place at Buddy Echols Field at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Going into the upcoming game, Coppell has been working specifically on pressuring and possession.

“We have been working on our formation and style of play,” Coppell junior midfielder Lane Ladner said. “We want to be able to possess the ball often and build up through the midfield and the sidelines. We’ve also been working on how we pressure the other team when they have the ball and how to patiently defend.”

Even with the recent cold weather, the Cowboys have held their normal practices.

“Practice this week has been pretty good despite the weather forcing us inside,” Ladner said. “The practices have been competitive and intense.”

Coppell’s mindset going into the match is simple: to dominate.

“We want to win and make a statement,” Ladner said. “Every game matters in a district as competitive as ours, and fine margins make the difference in whether a team goes to playoffs or not.”

Coppell’s key players to look out for include senior defender Manav Kapdia, senior forward Sam Stone, senior defender Chaz Null and senior forward Luca Grosoli who is coming back after recovering from a concussion.
