With two seconds left in the second half, sophomore guard Amber Coffey scored a 3-pointer, pushing the Coppell girls basketball team’s powerful defense into the rest of the game.
Coppell ended with a 37-26 victory against Hebron in District 5-6A play on Tuesday at the CHS Arena.
Going into the first quarter, Coppell and Hebron played a close game, with the Cowgirls playing strong defense, holding their ground with a score of 10-6 to end the first quarter.
“We took some steps in a couple areas like transition offense and it has been an emphasis, so we will keep emphasizing it,” Coppell coach Kit Pehl said.

In the first two minutes of the second quarter, senior forward Adriana Reijnen scored a layup and rebound, and with three minutes left, junior guard Prisha Kolhe scored a 3-pointer. With two seconds left in the second quarter, Coffey’s score increased the Cowgirls lead to 23-12 at halftime.
“I thought we stole the ball before they even had a chance to set up,” Pehl said. “That gave us some breathing room and gave us an opportunity to run half court offense.”
Coppell’s defense held Hebron to four points in the third quarter as the Cowgirls built a 34-16 lead.
“Our defense in the third quarter gave me confidence as I thought we defended well and I was glad to see that especially because it was an emphasis coming out of halftime,” Pehl said.

“We know the things we need to fix from this game, so as long as we are getting in practice and making sure to clean up those loose ends, we will go feeling confident into the next game,” Coppell junior forward Ashley Hall said.
