The Coppell girls basketball team looks forward to a close, action-packed game as the District 5-6A season comes to a close.
Coppell (24-11 overall, 10-3 in district) plays Flower Mound Marcus (23-10, 7-6) Tuesday at CHS Arena at 5:45 p.m. The Cowgirls look to snap a two-game losing streak.
“I’m looking forward to the opportunity to compete again, after losing two games in a row, we’ve had to redefine ourselves in a couple areas by doing some things that are really unique defensively,” Cowgirls coach Kit Pehl said.
Marcus defeated the Cowgirls, 59-54, on Jan. 16.
Pehl explains some of the specific ways Coppell plans to address Marcus’s style of play.
“This game is particularly challenging because they have two players that are fantastic scorers. Most teams only have one if they have any, and they have two. They push their offense and they put a lot of pressure on your defense with perimeter oriented playstyle. Guarding that type of offense is not the best matchup for us, but we’re ready for it,” Pehl said.
Coppell will open the Class 6A Region I bi-district playoffs on Feb. 17 against Allen at Carrollton Creekview.
“I think some new directions in terms of some things that we’ve had to do personnel wise has kind of given us some new energy. I think carrying that new energy into this, into competing in this game, is kind of exciting,” Pehl said.
