Adaptability has helped the team in close games. According to girls basketball coach Kit Pehl, their main ways of preparation have been showing films and repping the things that help them be successful.
“Regardless of what kind of learner you are, it puts us in a position to be successful,” Pehl said. “We are going to emphasize where we can and help them understand their personnel from how they defend us.”
This Tuesday, Coppell plays Hebron at the CHS Arena. The Cowgirls are 6-1 in the 5-6A district and 20-9 overall.
“I would say we probably need more efficiency in our motion offense and transition offense,” Pehl said. “I think the team’s ability to execute our defense game plan has been good, but our ability on offense will judge how far we go in our season.”
Despite increased attention from their opponents, preparation does not change.
“They rely on us as a coaching staff to prepare them for what we are going to see and what we are capable of doing,” Pehl said. “Based on our strengths and weaknesses compared to each opponent.”
Pehl emphasized the importance of adjusting throughout the season, even if it is their first time playing these teams.
“My objective would be to counter the things that worked in anticipation of them and capitalize on our improvements since then,” Pehl said. “We are going to get everybody’s best effort. We are going to have to play harder than who we play, and they are going to play hard.”
