Another bogey.
Star junior Alicia Bellendir steps up for the last shot of the tournament. One putt to win.
With a 2-stroke lead, the Cowgirls defeated the Vipers and 10 other teams with a final score of 607 at White Wing Golf Club in Georgetown, winning their first Class 6A state championship. The Cowgirls complete the gold streak winning gold at district, region and state.

“When Alicia put it in for the season, she just smiled,” Coppell coach Gary Beyer said. “I couldn’t have been prouder of her and the team.”
With Coppell coming into the tournament placed first in the state with Vandegrift, Lake Travis and Westlake trailing in the standings, Coppell was the team to beat.
“We had only lost one tournament all year and it was by a stroke without our second best player,” Beyer said. “We knew that we were the team to beat, and we had to play like it.”
Coppell rallied behind Bellendir, who is ranked first in the state and won the Class 6A individual state championship.
“She’s tough,” Beyer said. “She has a bad wrist that she had to strap up at regionals and state because the doctor told her to rest it. She’s strong mentally and she is extremely competitive and pushes through adversity.”
Vandegrift and Coppell were tied at the 16th hole with two holes left when Coppell surged in front after two bogeys on back-to-back holes.
“I gave Vandegrift a ton of credit,” Beyer said. “They stuck with us the entire tournament and they have a fairly young team that will be a force next year.”
With a gold medal and history for Coppell, Beyer wants to run it back next year.
“I don’t deserve a lot of credit as that mainly goes to the girls,” Beyer said. “I know next year that our squad is going to be better and we are coming back for the gold.”
