THE COLONY – Coppell senior shooting guard Landry Sherrer with the ball. The clock ticks down with roughly 4:45 on the clock. A perfectly executed pick-and-roll with senior forward/center Kennedy Paul rolling free in the paint.
Then shouts of “And one!” emerge from the Coppell fans.

For the fifth time on Monday night at The Colony High School, the Coppell girls basketball team and Plano East were tied. However, it was Plano East with the game’s last run to end Coppell’s season with a 49-40 victory in the Class 6A Region I bi-district playoffs.
“Coppell came out and gave us a great game tonight,” Plano East coach Derrick Richardson said. “Being in the same district as them for years, we know that they are a defensive minded team, and being able to not settle for shots allowed us to pull ahead.”
The true result of this game was decided with three minutes left and missed opportunities by the Cowgirls.
This, then led to a fast break for the Panthers, allowing them to go up five points and not look back.
Utilizing the trap defense, Plano East trapped Sherrer and pressed full court. This was executed successfully as the second half saw a complete turn around on the defensive end, holding the Cowgirls to just 10 points in the fourth quarter, while the Panthers scored 24.
“It was more about the girls and how they were able to take what the game plan was and execute it to its maximum capacity,” Richardson said. “Although Sherrer is a threat and we had to double her, we were able to rotate and make sure that we came out with a victory.”
Coppell coaches were not available for comment post game and players declined interviews.
