Senior shooting guard Atia Medenica dribbles against Lewisville on Dec. 12. The Cowgirls play Plano Senior on Friday at 6:30 p.m. in CHS Arena.

After a loss against Plano East on Tuesday, the Coppell girls basketball team seeks victory against Plano Senior at CHS Arena at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

Senior shooting guard Ella Spiller said the team lacked a good mindset on Tuesday, and have been preparing to face Plano Senior with more confidence and precision.

“We did not play like who we were on Tuesday,” Spiller said. “We weren’t tough and didn’t demonstrate anything that we usually do. In practice, we have been emphasizing being tough, pushing through and just doing what we know is right.”

Although Plano Senior currently sits last in District 6-6A, Spiller thinks that it is no excuse for the team to not put full effort in their plays.

“They’ve always been a pretty good team,” Spiller said. “Just because they are last in the district, that isn’t something to take lightly, especially in our district. We always need to work on our skills of just boxing out, moving the ball in transition and knowing our plays.”

The Cowgirls are currently 16-13 on their season and fourth in District 6-6A.

“We want to play against Plano Senior High, locked-in,” Spiller said. “We need to control everything that we can control and use our fundamentals, and we will be fine.”
