Coppell senior setter/opposite hitter spikes over the net against Plano West at CHS Arena on Friday. The Lady Wolves defeated the Cowgirls 25-8, 25-17, 25-23.

The close loss to the Plano West on Friday marked the Coppell volleyball team’s fourth consecutive defeat. Adapting with the new team and implementing new strategies, the Cowgirls grow with each match, bridging the gap a set at a time.

The Cowgirls play Lewisville today at 6:30 p.m at Coppell High School Arena.

“The [last] game was good for us, we are applying all the corrections coach [volleyball coach Roybn] Ross is giving us and we could tell each set we are doing better and better.” Coppell senior opposite hitter Mira Klem said. “We are mentally preparing for district [play] and how each game is going to be.”

With the young team continuously adjusting and learning from each game, each game provides new experience and teamwork coordination.

“The girls were really applying what we were telling them,” Ross said. “What we will take forward is that we have to be better at blocking and quicker in the middle.”

This game acts as an opportunity for a turnaround of the Cowgirl’s performance, analyzing what worked and didn’t work in the last four games and in preseason.

While other teams in the district have more experience and physical height than the Cowgirls, the team continues to work together to create new plays.

“I’m looking forward to running out new plays [such as] slides and a faster offense that we have been practicing,” senior middle blocker/setter Alena Truong said.
