Through cold weather and wind that made the temperature feel like 27 degrees, the Coppell girls soccer team made skillful passes and dominated Little Elm on Thursday at Buddy Echols Field, winning the match, 6-0.
The match was rescheduled from Tuesday.
“I think even after not touching a ball for a week, we were all really just excited to come out and play,” senior goalkeeper Kelsey Clark said. “We really showed that in the first half especially.”
Senior forward Neerali Kapadia scored consecutive goals in the first half.
“Neerali Kapadia came in, had a really nice start to the game, and scored goals for us early and granted us some chances really nicely,” Coppell coach Craig Able said.
As the match progressed, strong winds and pressure from the Lobos’ offense put pressure on Coppell. To combat this, Clark directed defense to keep a more open formation.
“Because of the wind, and they were funneling us to one side, it was important to make sure I just kept my options open and open up the field if needed,” Clark said. “I told them you need to be calm, if you have space, drive if you don’t, play clean.”

Despite the weather, Coppell recorded its first shutout of the regular season.
“They did great not letting the things that they can’t control bother them and focus on what they can change,” Able said. “We want to control possession, we want to control the tempo of games, we want to make sure we’re not giving up chances. We do those things and the goals will come, the chances will come, and they did and we’re happy with it.”
The Cowgirls play at Lewisville on Friday at 7 p.m.
