Buddy Echols Field erupts into cheers as Coppell junior forward Emeline Holder takes a penalty kick, breaking the scoreless tie.

On Friday, the Coppell girls soccer team defeated Flower Mound, 2-0.

According to Coppell girls soccer coach Craig Able, the team excelled at possession.

“We did a good job controlling possession of the game,” Able said. “We defended really well and effectively transitioned. Overall, we played a clean game.”

In the first half, fans chanted, “Neerali, Neerali, Neerali.” A small fan group formed, cheering for Coppell forward Neerali Kapadia when she had possession.

Kapadia achieved a major milestone as the game was her 100th varsity start.

In the first half, Holder’s penalty kick fueled the Cowgirls’ drive, Kapadia later scored a driven shot.

With 17 minutes and 34 seconds left to play in the first half, the match went into a 30-minute weather delay.

The resumption of the first half and second proved uneventful, with the Cowgirls maintaining possession in the Flower Mound end.

For future matches, the Cowgirls hope to have more perseverance.

“We need to stick with our mindset,” Holder said. “Sometimes we get a little distracted, but we just need to push through and play as a team.”
