With less than four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Coppell senior guard Levi Owira hit a critical 3-pointer that sent roars throughout CHS Arena.
This was the first time the Coppell boys basketball team led Flower Mound on Tuesday. Coppell continued this momentum to finish the game, defeating Flower Mound, 70-64.
“We did not come out how we wanted to come out but we fought back when it mattered,” Coppell senior guard Malachi Jackson said.

Coppell spent the first half of the night catching up to Flower Mound’s offense.
“They completely outplayed us in the first half,” Coppell coach Ryan Murphy said. “They had a lot of different guys contributing and did a great job finding the matchup they wanted to attack.”
The second quarter ended with Flower Mound leading, 40-23. During halftime, Murphy noted Flower Mound’s aggressive offense and wanted Coppell to attack back.
“He talked to us about just giving it our all and playing hard so we could find a way to come back,” Coppell junior guard Tre Watson III said.
Coppell’s energy surge caused Flower Mound’s defence to waver in the second half. Watson rounded off the third quarter with a layup to cut the Jaguars lead to 55-48.
“When we started pressuring them they weren’t able to be as aggressive and started playing more defensive,” Murphy said. “It felt like they started to play not to lose. That’s when we were really able to cut down on that lead.”
According to Murphy, consistency remains a primary area of improvementl.
“We’re going to have to commit to being better for 32 minutes, and we played around 16 minutes,” Murphy said. “Against other teams, that’s going to get us beat.”
