Homecoming week has commenced.
Dress up days, homecoming dance and the long-awaited football game.
On Friday at 7 p.m. the Coppell football team hosts Arlington Bowie at Buddy Echols Field.
“Homecoming is always an exciting time of year,” Coppell coach Antonio Wiley said. “It’s going to be a packed stadium and adrenaline will be high.”
After last week’s rain out against Waxahachie, Coppell is looking forward to playing four quarters.
“We are looking to get out there and finish a game without it getting cancelled,” Wiley said. “The real rush comes from that.”
The Cowboys will face Volunteers senior quarterback Jayden Bibbs, who has proven to be a mobile quarterback.“They have a solid quarterback who knows how to use his legs,” Wiley said. “Making sure we have a solid defense is going to play a big factor for Friday.”
After struggling with special teams plays against Waxahachie last Friday, Wiley emphasized focusing on special teams.
“We got to clean up the special teams,” Wiley said. “Besides the special teams blunders that we had last game, I thought we played well both defensively and offensively.”
According to Wiley, the game is about not giving into the outside pressure and playing smartly as the game moves.
“We have to stay on our toes,” Wiley said. “We need no turnovers, finding ways to force turnovers and the same mindset throughout.”
As the game approaches, the Cowboys look for another win to come out of homecoming.
“We are fired up,” Wiley said. “We just want to go play football.”
