On Monday night, the Coppell ISD Board of Trustees named Dr. Leanne Shivers as the lone finalist for CISD superintendent, effective Sept. 29 replacing interim Superintendent Doug Williams.
On April 3, former CISD superintendent Dr. Brad Hunt announced his retirement from the district after eight years of serving as superintendent and over 35 years in public education.
Dr. Shivers, working most recently as an assistant superintendent at Keller ISD, has served in other school districts such as Grapevine-Colleyville, Southlake Carroll and Coppell where she was formerly an associate principal at Coppell High School.
“The most important thing to me in a superintendent is, what are we doing for our kids?” CHS Principal Laura Springer said. “It is how successful our kids are with us, and then secondly, I want them to be able to support the staff because these people work hard for not a lot of money, but they show up for our kids.”
Aside from serving as assistant superintendent in Keller ISD, Dr. Shivers held various district-level administrative roles such as the executive director for student services, executive director for curriculum and instruction, then later area superintendent for a PK-12 feeder pattern.
The selection process consisted of a nationwide search with 45 applicants led by search firm JG Consulting. The CISD Board of Trustees conducted several extensive interviews with the top applicants, selecting Dr. Shivers to the position on Sept. 8 during a closed special board meeting on Monday night.
“Dr. Shivers is a visionary leader with a strong commitment to academic excellence and authentic relationships. She brings the qualities our community values most, including integrity, innovation, and a dedication to every student’s success,” Board President David Caviness said.
Sharing the same educational visions as the CISD community, Dr. Shivers is striving to uphold Coppell’s reputation as a premiere public school district and provide the proper guidance for years to come.
“The educational culture we cultivate is key to the success of our students, staff, families, and community,” Dr. Shivers said. “In Coppell ISD, the legacy of relationships allows students, educators, parents, and the community to embrace innovative learning that truly sets it apart from other districts.”
