Community members filled the meeting room at the Vonita White Administration building Monday night for the monthly Coppell ISD Board of Trustees meeting, with students from Coppell High School stepping forward during the open forum to voice concerns about recent staffing decisions affecting their campus.
“The people who are affected the most have not been given a voice — the students,” junior Yoshita Sanivarpu said.
Prior to the board entering closed session, junior Alivia Shang shared that the group of CHS learners presented a petition that had gathered more than 300 signatures, urging trustees to reconsider decisions involving teacher reassignments and removals.

In response, Coppell ISD director of communications Amanda Simpson said “most of the information presented by these students is factually incorrect and the concerns raised did not accurately reflect the district’s staffing processes or considerations behind those decisions.”
As the public forum concluded, discussion shifted toward district updates and long-term planning.
“I am thrilled about the direction CHS and New Tech High @ Coppell are moving in and I am looking forward to seeing the campuses come together in a way that expands opportunities and strengthens the overall student experience,” trustee Leigh Walker said.
NTH@C Principal Zane Porter addressed concerns about maintaining campus identity amid those changes while also sharing the new bell schedule that has been created to NTH@C learners for the upcoming fall semester.
“We as a team are being intentional about preserving tradition and culture that matter most to students and we will continue to prioritize those elements during the shift as the campuses become more connected,” Porter said.
District operations were also highlighted during the meeting. Chief operations officer Sid Grant shared efforts to improve efficiency have led to significant progress.
“The team has reduced maintenance turnaround time by half, allowing campuses to receive faster support and services,” Grant said.
Additional agenda items included updates on limited open enrollment, Title 1 designation for Cottonwood Creek Elementary School and operational reports, along with approval of routine financial and facilities-related items such as new furniture for CHS and Coppell Middle School North.
