The Coppell High School Arena beams with senior students, parents, teachers and other guests. Each student has a rose in their hand, ready to give it to the person who helped them reach this far. A student ‘s guest stands in front of them, ready with a Coppell star pin in their hand.
On Wednesday, Coppell High School hosted the annual Senior Pinning Ceremony, where senior students get pinned by the person who helped them reach this point in their high school journey. Guests included parents, teachers, coaches, athletes, relatives and friends. The ceremony was conducted to honor and appreciate the people in the lives of each senior student.
The ceremony was initiated by Principal Laura Springer, who began with a heartfelt message to her students and faculty. Following Springer were the Student Council Officers, each of whom delivered speeches to represent the senior class, or offer their support.
After the pledges were recited, AP English teacher Matthew Bowden and Chemistry teacher Courtney Crosby spoke on behalf of the teaching staff at the school, highlighting the achievement of graduating high school and to always remember Coppell as their home. As Crosby recited the alma mater, the arena echoed with applause.

Crosby, delivering the final speech prior to pinning, reminded students that while they are individual and one, together, they are complete. “There is a motto on the dollar bill: out of many, one,and that is what you all are. One,” Crosby said. “But you, as Coppell alumni, are also many, and one.”
Upon the beginning of the senior pinning, students and their guests exchanged cards and hugs as gratitude for both being invited and attending the ceremony. As each individual pinning group came into the arena to begin, students and guests shared a word together containing either memories or heartfelt odes. The pinning groups concluded their pinning teary-eyed and full of beautiful words that were exchanged throughout.
The ceremony highlighted the importance of just one person’s support in the life of a student and the event taking place just a week before the seniors’ graduation signifies just how important it is to appreciate the person who helped you reach this far. There were many different stories surrounding the senior students’ choices for their guests of honor.
“I nominated my middle school dyslexia therapist, Mrs. Bankston, to be the person to pin me because she put me on the right track,” senior Alexander Garza said. “Before I was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia, I thought I was just dumb, but she really made me understand what I had and turned those disadvantages into advantages.”

Coppell High School senior Sophia Tran selected English II teacher Hannah Corley to pin her senior pin on Wednesday at CHS Arena. The Senior Pinning Ceremony honors members who are important in seniors’ life throughout high school.
The senior pinning was one of the events held for the senior class, which will be followed next week by the senior picnic, senior awards and graduation.
