“Hi, I’m a Mac.” “And I’m a P.C.”
If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably seen dozens of these T.V. commercials by Apple. They portray P.C.s as awkward and second-rate, while showing the sleek, friendly features of Macs. However, today’s biggest tech battle isn’t Mac versus P.C. It’s iPhone versus Android.
The iPhone experienced extreme popularity upon its 2007 release, selling millions upon millions of devices in dozens of countries. It reigned supreme in the high-end smartphone world, updating its flashy touchscreen and successful App Store while competitors struggled to catch up. But then Google’s Android platform came out in late 2008, finally posing a real challenge the glass-and-chrome giant.
While not as refined and stable as the iPhone operating system (iOS), Android appealed to users everywhere because of the customizability and freedom it offered. Android software is available on many different phone models and service providers, unlike the iPhone’s one-size-fits-all design and exclusivity contract with AT&T.
Both types of phones are increasingly popular everywhere—including the halls of CHS. Just today I saw students using iPhones, and I used my friend’s Android-based Acer Liquid during lunch. What’ve your experiences been with iPhones or Android-based phones? Feel free to comment below with your opinion.
