American rock band from San Francisco, Train, will come to Winstar Casino in Oklahoma tomorrow night. And oh yeah – I’ll be there. 62.8 miles might be too far for many to travel for a concert, but not for me as I have been waiting to go to a train concert for years. Yes, years. Nine to be exact. Ever since the release of their second album Drops of Jupiter, I have been head over heels for the band.
The band, consisting of Patrick Monahan (vocals), Jimmy Stafford (lead guitarist) and Scott Underwood (drummer) achieved mainstream success with their 1998 debut album, Train. The single “Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me)” was an international success and won two Grammy Awards in 2002. Their third album was released in 2003, My Private Nation and their fourth in 2006, For Me, It’s You. Their latest album, Save Me, San Francisco was released last year and their latest single “Hey Soul Sister” became the bands most successful single, reaching the top three on the Billboard Hot 100 and reaching the top 10 in several other countries.
This will not be my first time seeing Patrick Monahan perform songs from the band, but it will be my first time to see the trio as a whole. On a business trip with my dad to Hawaii, I was blessed with a spontaneous performance by the lead singer. At a dinner arranged by the company, the scheduled entertainment came down with some kind of illness and couldn’t make it to the event. By a random stroke of luck, Monahan was there on his honeymoon and graced us with a performance.
Best dinner of my life.
In person, Monahan blew his CDs out of the water.
Review:
“Marry Me”? Okay!
When the lead singer of Train, Pat Monahan, took the stage and asked the audience to ‘marry’ him, the only thing I could think to say was yes. Monahan took a cordless microphone to the crowd as he walked around singing the song ”marry me” from his latest album Save Me, San Francisco.
Monahan and Jimmy Stafford completely dominated last night, as they played to a few hundred people at Winstar Casino just over the Oklahoma-Texas border. In addition to dazzling with their amazing talent, the artists were extremely interactive with the audience, inviting people onto the stage and recognizing big fans. (One girl made a poster board sized sign and he placed it on stage and gave her his shirt after the show.)
Needless to say – I was completely amazed by this performance. Not just because I have a slight obsession with Pat Monahan, but because he really does have an incredible talent. For anyone who likes his music even a little bit – I recommend this show. The band is 10 times better in person and you will not be disappointed. For a list of the bands tour stops, click here.
