Julian Casablancas comes to House of Blues

Last night, Julian Casablancas (front man for the Strokes and now a solo artist) stopped by the House of Blues on his tour with opening act, Funeral Party.

As far as opening acts go, Funeral Party was alright. They had some catchy tunes and good lyrics, but the lead singer seemed a little crazy to me. It took a while for their set to get started and even longer for Julian’s.

Finally, after what was probably an hour, Julian came out to a roaring crowd, myself included. The first song he played was one that I’d actually never heard before, but it was still good. Most of the set list included songs from his album, Phrazes for the Young, which was released last year. The highlight of the show was definitely when he played “Hard to Explain” off the first Strokes album, Is This It.

After coming out for a short two song encore consisting of “Out of Blue” and “4 Chords of the Apocalypse” (both off Phrazes), he left the stage to this dismay of the crowd.

All in all, it was an amazing show with an awesome crowd. Tonight Julian’s playing a show in Austin then continuing his tour across other states and ending it in Japan. For more information about the tour or just about Julian, check out his site.
