Though the 28-3 win over Denton Ryan all but lifted the Coppell Cowboys to another district championship, many senior athletes saw their last action in front of the packed stands at Buddy Echols Field.

Senior safety Chris Adkins paused after the final horn sounded, sat down in the middle of the Cowboys logo at midfield and reflected on four amazing years as part of the Coppell football program.

“I really wanted it to slow down, honestly,” Adkins said. “I just wanted to take advantage of it and enjoy it. [Coppell] is a such a great atmosphere, and such a great town to be a part of. I am just so thankful for my four years in this program.”

The four-year span that has followed the Class of 2014 has seen its share of ups, including the 27-24 overtime thriller against Allen, and downs, as the team dealt with the loss of senior captain Jacob Logan last fall.

Senior defensive end Solomon Thomas and the Coppell defense kept the Raiders’ offense out of the end zone, as they had in last year’s 21-3 victory, for the entire night. But to Thomas, scoring was not the main objective on Senior Night.

“I just wanted to play as hard as I could and show the underclassmen how to end your senior game,” Thomas said.

The Cowboys now turn their attention to the Lewisville Fighting Farmers, whom they face off against next Friday, but the final home game for the Class of 2014 will be far from forgotten.
