Band JackOPierce, originally from Dallas, returns to Downtown for two night this weekend to put on shows for fans of Jack Johnson, Amos Lee, and Counting Crows.
The sound resembles these acoustic, island sounds and will be heard at the Granada Theater on Friday and Saturday of this week. The Granada is located on lower Greenville, across from the legendary Kirby’s Steakhouse, now turned into more of an up-scale burger, sports bar type restaurant.
JackOPierce is an alternative rock band formed by Jack O’Neill and Cary Pierce in 1998, focusing their sound on raw vocals and acoustic guitars.
On Friday JackOPierce will be performing with Creede Williams and on Saturday they will be appearing with Graham Coulton.
My tickets are for tonight and I will be checking out the new edition of Kirby’s before I head across the street to hear the music of a present time acoustic genius.
Check back late tonight for the concert review.
Kicking off the show with a hit “Three of us in a Boat'” the full band of JackOPierce didn’t say a spoken word untill around five songs into the set. They stuck strictly to the music and after the first five songs, the additional electric guitar player, bass and drummer all left the stage to the two founders and their acoustic guitars.
The set included most of the work from their Greatest Hits album and some from their latest album, Promise Of Summer.
JackOPierce will be seen next at a series of vineyards in California in May.
The new Wood Fire: Kirby’s wasn’t the Kirby’s I have grown to know and love, but it was absolutely some of the best pizza in Dallas that I have ever had. The concert was a great show, successfuly getting every member of the audience on their feet by the end of the show, and I, and hopefuly you, will be attending their next show in town.
