The Primetime Emmys aired last night. The Emmys have taken a downturn in recent years since the rise of hit shows like Modern Family, Breaking Bad and Louie. Because of the popularity of certain shows, they all overshadow the awards. Modern Family won “Best Comedy Series” again this year. Breaking Bad won “Best Supporting Actor” with Aaron Paul, which was well deserved, but I feel like the academy ignored the rest of the Breaking Bad team despite nominations. There’s always a few of HBO or Showtime shows you have probably never heard of winning a multitude of awards (i.e. Boardwalk Empire and Homeland. There are a few critically acclaimed shows that were nominated for few or no awards by the academy. NBC’s Parks and Recreation and Community were both snubbed for “Best Comedy Series” and acting nominations. I will admit, I have never liked Modern Family. I am sure it deserves the attention is getting with such a wide audience, but it overshadows other comedies that may get cancelled because of it. Jon Cryer won “Best Actor in a Comedy Series” for Two and a Half Men, but I have to be honest. I saw the entire last season of Two and a Half Men, and I don’t believe he deserved it. It was a surprising win, even without any real competition other than Jim Parsons in The Big Bang Theory and Louie C.K. in Louie.
Overall, this year’s Emmy winners consisted of repeats and the barely known. You can see the complete list of winners here. What did you think of the winners?
