The crowd roared as the Coppells boys basketball team flew down the CHS Arena court on Tuesday, finishing a 67-39 victory over Hebron. After a tight run in the first half, the Cowboys powered through the last two quarters significantly boosting their score.
The first quarter ended with a score of 14-4 before Hebron closed to 27-22 at halftime.
“We got off to a really good start and that obviously gave us a lot of momentum,” Coppell coach Ryan Murphy said. “We kind of gave that away in the second quarter. We were really flat.”
However, the Cowboys recovered quickly.
“We went down a little bit, they went on their run, but that happens,” Coppell junior point guard Robert Watson said. “We just came back and started doing our thing.”
The third quarter ended with the Cowboys leading 50-32 with senior guard Sibu Socks scoring several 2-pointer dunks that boosted the Cowboys up to this spot.
“It brought our team a whole lot of energy and it just helped us go on the run that we were going on in the second half,” Socks said.
Along with Socks, Coppell senior guard Levi Owira hit consecutive 3-pointers that contributed towards the Cowboys gaining a huge advantage.
“To me, the biggest highlight of the game was Levi coming off the bench in the third quarter and hitting those back–to–back threes, but he also got a big rebound for us,” Murphy said. “He made a couple of steals that allowed us to take what was a close three point game and turned it into 18.”
After maximizing their full potential and thriving after the second half buzzer, the Cowboys defeated the Hawks at home.
