The lights dim and voices in the audience lower to a whisper as dark curtains slowly open, revealing members of Coppell High School show choir Vivace!.
A member claps twice, and the rest of the members snap into position as “Wild Things” by Alessia Cara starts to play.
On Friday and Saturday, Vivace! hosted its fall show, “Lost and Found,” in the CHS Auditorium.
According to Vivace! choreographer Ashley Kimbrough, the song “You Will Be Found” was chosen because of its validity for competition; based on its concepts, the theme “Lost and Found” was chosen.
“I think everybody can relate to ‘You Will Be Found’ because everybody has a moment of feeling like they don’t belong,” Kimbrough said. “In Vivace!, we do belong. They all belong here because we want them and love them and care about them to be on that stage.”
Sophomore Vidhisha Paleti enjoyed Vivace!’s performance.
“Honestly, I was impressed at how they could move that much and still be able to sing properly because I know from personal experience in musical theater, it’s really hard to do dancing and singing well,” Paleti said. “It’s just the way that they were able to handle themselves.”
Sophomore Safiya Syeda was not disappointed by the songs that Vivace! sung.
“The most I like is actually the vocals and the harmonies,” Syeda said. “It’s so pretty. It’s so many different voices. It’s just like, ‘wow, what am I listening to?’”
Along with Vivace!, the show choirs Encore, VOX and Spark from Coppell Middle School West, Coppell Middle School East and Coppell Middle School North, respectively, performed. VOX and Spark performed during the first act, while Encore performed during the second act.
Between some performances, videos played on the two screens in the auditorium or Vivace! members performed songs. During the performance of “Run” by OneRepublic, a video was played of Coppell middle and elementary school students performing the same song during the Coppell Music Summer Camp with similar choreography.
“What I enjoyed the most about the show is not only how synchronized everyone was, but that everyone on the stage wanted to be there and was doing their all at every moment,” Paleti said.
