As Coppell students are turning their calendars from summer months to the beginning of fall, they are also getting ready for a break from the Texas heat. When it comes to fashion, people are putting away their tank tops and T-shirts, and dusting off their jeans and sweaters from last fall.
The temperature in Coppell did not cool much in the first weeks of October. This leads to a delay in Texas teens looking to wear the latest fall fashion trends.
“I hate that it is hot, but I’m still going to wear jeans and a sweater,” CHS9 student Maggie Mink said. “I went fall shopping mid-summer and I was like, this sweater is coming home with me, I don’t even care if it’s 102 outside.”
But of course, there are always ways to look good without risking heatstroke. People who often tend to wear jeans have the option of wearing jorts, which are essentially jeans that only go to the knees. They are a fashionable alternative, and are easy to style with any fall outfit while keeping cool.
“I love jorts, and I think more recently I’ve fallen victim to khaki,” Coppell High School junior Teo Petrov said. “To me, they give outfits a twist of jorts that I might wear in the summer, but a little bit more of a fall color.”
Since jorts are becoming more popular, they are starting to appear as a trend in teen fashion.
“I saw this guy wearing a dress shirt underneath a sweater,” sophomore Cash Mitchell said. “But when you pair that with the jorts, it’s more neat and fun. I would try that.”
Trends do not always have to be fit for you, but just seeing other people wearing them can give inspiration to create an outfit that fits the fall aesthetic while also staying in your specific style preferences.
To make an outfit really bring out personality, layering can help create more depth in everyday outfits. Whether that is tons of accessories or just putting one shirt on top of another, it can make an outfit a lot more unique to an individual. Layering is especially helpful when the weather gets cooler and you need to stay a bit warmer.
“I think I tend to layer a lot more during the fall than I would over the summer, because the weather is just such a perfect time in my opinion,” Petrov said. “It also adds a better reflection to who you are as a person, and that’s why I love layering.”
Layering also adds certain elements to outfits that create different looks.
“Dressing for fall has more options especially because you can layer a lot,” Mink said. “Brown jackets over anything adds a 2000s vibe, which I’m obsessed with.”
When people think of fall, their first thoughts are leaves changing from summer’s green to cozy warm tones, pumpkins on doorsteps and spooky decorations in front yards. A lot like the seasons, clothing will gradually evolve into darker warm colors, rather than the light tones they wear in the summer.
“The changing Earth kind of correlates with fashion,” junior Tessa Huckle said. “I see a lot more browns and darker wine colors to dress for fall. The family-centered seasons start approaching, and I just think it makes you feel warmer.”
While the cool winds blow in and the trees are shedding their leaves, a new wave of fashion comes for students. Each outfit and style unique to every individual, cool weather is bringing warmth to all teens at CHS.
