In a world full of 106.1 KISS FM’s and i93.3’s, radio can feel like an over-commercialized, annoying mess of pop replays. That’s why I love KXT 91.7, a public radio station: they play music from interesting, independent artists (including CHS graduate Emily Elbert, as of late,) and I don’t think I have ever heard the same song play twice since I started listening to the station at the beginning of the year. The station is always playing great music and has very, very limited sections of advertisements.
There are probably few students who listen to the station, and there’s a reason for that – it’s new. The station will be celebrating its first anniversary on the air about two weeks from now, on November 9. To celebrate, the station has begun a fall membership campaign to raise funds to keep the station on air (considering they don’t want to pester us with annoying ads) in which they ask listeners to give contributions to the station.
The great thing about the membership campaign is that the listeners determine how much they want to give – be it $10 or $500. All contributions are accepted. The station has a goal of 1700 donations by this Friday, so if you want to keep the indie music station on the air, make a donation today online or call in at 1-877-469-3135.
Because, seriously. The top 40 can only be played so many times.
