Last Sunday, many tuned in to the Emmy Awards to see if their favorite shows would claim the coveted statue. Fans of Mad Men and Modern Family at least were not disappointed.
The AMC hit drama claimed the title award, Best Drama Series, as well as a writing award, beating out Lost and the serial killer series Dexter. Modern Family also dominated their category, winning Best Comedy and Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Eric Stonestreet).
However, I feel it worthy to note that some actors and actresses were more than qualified to receive an award but were overlooked due to the obscurity of their show. My main example is Connie Britton from Friday Night Lights.
The show never gained the viewership it deserved and being about Texas high school football, it has a limited number of fans. However, the fans have stayed extremely loyal, enough to save it from cancellation several times.
Anyway, in the show, Connie Britton plays a high school counselor turned principal who struggles with the new zoning issues at her high school. She depicts someone so realistic, she reminds me of my own counselor. For her to receive a nomination finally was some gratification, but I will not be satisfied until she brings home an Emmy.
While I was very excited for Stonestreet and Jim Parsons (Big Band Theory) who received awards last weekend, I cannot help but be disappointed that someone less well known is unable to compete on the Red Carpet.
