Clash of the Titans meets expectations, more or less

Maddie Walters

Staff Writer

Every now and then a movie comes out that exceeds your expectations. Clash of the Titans is not that movie.

For those who are unaware of the premise, the movie is a remake of a 80s film of the same title. The plot revolves around the Greek myth concerning the hero Perseus, the guy who rode Pegasus and chopped off Medusa’s head. With these things in mind, it’s easy to understand how the CGI got a little bit nuts… throughout the entire move.

And as with any movie based on a work of literature, there were huge and glaring errors concerning the myth itself, although they were an interesting interpretation. One of my favorite aspects of the movie was how Perseus essentially plays the role of rebellious teenager who tries to make a point to his all star dad, the King God Zeus. It was almost sweet the way the writers tried to include a theme in the midst of all the sword waving and loud swearing.

However, the presence of power actors Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes helped when the lines got a little too cheesy for my liking. But with all this being said, I would not advise you to rush in to the theater expecting a Greek myth version of Avatar.

This movie is really aimed towards the male sex, but that doesn’t mean it’s too over-the-top when it comes to the giant scary monsters and bloody battles. Speaking from a feminine standpoint, I can safely say that there weren’t any parts where I felt the need to hide behind my hands, and I’m a wimp when it comes to movies.

I would suggest seeing this movie if you have any kind of interest in Greek mythology or if you have some spare cash. For all the bashing it’s receiving, it is an enjoyable film.  Just don’t go in expecting the extraordinary.
