On Monday, Coppell High School’s STEM Academy will be welcoming special guest Dr. Michael S. Brown to speak to students interested in the science or engineering fields.
Dr. Brown is the Direction of the Jonsson Center for Molecular Genetics at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He was the Nobel Prize recipient in 1985 for Medicine or Physiology.
The event is organized by the Science/Technology Involvement and Research club (STIR). The organization’s president, senior Rohan Panaparambil, hopes Dr. Brown’s speech will help students who might be interested in the science field.
“The biggest takeaway I want students to have is to gain some sense of appreciation for the field of science,” Panaparambil said. “I want it to reinforce their potential interest in science related fields, and then maybe they will look on their own for more ways to get involved.”
Lasting from 4-6 p.m, the event will be in the CHS lecture hall. Along with students, teachers, family members and friends are also encouraged to attend.
