On Saturday, voters will be able to determine Coppell ISD’s future.
CISD Board of Trustees Places 1, 2 and 3 are up for election. Coppell residents can vote at Cottonwood Creek Elementary School, Wilson Elementary School, Mockingbird Elementary School, Lakeside Elementary School and Town Center. Voting will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Place 3 trustee Anthony Hill is running uncontested. Incumbent trustee Leigh Walker and candidate Sheri Hill are running for Place 1. Candidates Jonathan Powers and Julie Waters are running for Place 2.
With the district continuing to face a $4.5 million deficit, finances are a key talking point. For CISD parent Rebecca Bailey, it is the most important issue.
“With the legislature currently in session, it looks like vouchers have a good chance of becoming a reality,” Bailey said. “My concern is if public education gets the funding it needs.”

CISD may be affected by the new Texas voucher program, which Governor Gregg Abbott plans to sign into law Saturday.
Bailey wants candidates that represent the entire district and are ready to make crucial choices for the district’s future.
“I’m looking for somebody who has integrity, is ready to do the work, has their sleeves rolled up, is on board for the hard decisions that have to come, transparent, honest and someone who can look at a situation from the perspective of a CISD parent,” Bailey said. “I want someone who’s going to be there to protect all 13,000 students.”
