Tonight the rivalry that was begun in the gridiron continues on the hardwood, as the Coppell Cowboys boys basketball team prepare to take on the Allen Eagles at home at 7:30.
Coppell (3-4) comes into this game off of a 13-point loss to Arlington Bowie on Saturday, 69-56. Junior forward Josh Feitl led the Cowboys with 14 points.
Allen (0-3) comes in off a big loss to a tough Richardson-Berkner team, 83-59. Senior guard Cameron Epps, the team’s leading scorer (14.3 points per game), paced the Eagles with 10 points.
The Eagles have a lot to prove this season, after they were ousted in the first round of the playoffs last spring by the Cowboys, with Heath Heidtke converting a layup in the closing seconds for a 43-41 win.
For the Cowboys, their frontcourt play has been strong, with junior posts Simi Socks (10.0 points per game) and Chad Kaiser (6.6 points per game).
Landon Goesling, a junior transfer from Bakersfield, Calif., has stepped right in as a starter at guard (23 points over last two games) to fuel an aggressive backcourt that serve as play-callers for head coach Kit Pehl in the new “motion” offensive set.
