Last weekend, both Coppell High School boys varsity golf teams played in tournaments both in Lubbock and Ft. Worth.

The weekend in Lubbock was a good one for the CHS girls team.  With no seniors, it was up to the younger group of varsity players to bring home a title. Sophomores Chaithra Katemneni (76-71) and Sol Lee (74-70) and juniors Taylor Icenberger (76-76) and Hannah Jaio (79-78) had a great weekend and were able to bring the Coppell Cowgirls to success.  With Lee placing second, Katemneni placing fifth, and Icenberger and Jaio both placing in top 20.

The Cowgirls shot a 305 and 295 over the first two rounds to finish first overall at 600, placing them ahead of area rivals Southlake Carroll, Hebron and Colleyville Heritage.

The boys team also had a good round this weekend. Even though not placing first, the team still managed to place sixth overall out of twenty teams.  Alex Garcia placed seventh and Eric VerDuin placed in the top 15. The boys pulled and total score of 302-317 = 619.

Varsity injury during practice round of Lubbock ISD Invitational

During the practice round of the Lubbock tournament, senior Daniel Dickens dislocated his shoulder. He was not able to play either day of the tournament.

“We were playing in the practice round at Rawls course on Thursday and on the 15th hole I swung and my shoulder dislocated,” Dickens said. “Since the tournament, I have been going to the trainer and it feels much better.”

Junior varsity girls win Oak Hollow Tournament

The junior varsity girls team won the entire Oak Hollow Tournament in McKinney with sophomore Payton Cupstid placing first with a score of 79. Freshman Belle Tan placed second with a score of 80.

Next big tournament for varsity boys

Boys varsity will play their next big tournament, the Burleson Centennial Varsity Invitational on Oct. 8th at Woodhaven Country Club. As far as this weekend goes, the team does not have a tournament.
