Coppell’s city council will be plagued with new faces, as early election results show Gary Roden and Karen Hunt taking the lead in their respective elections and a runoff election scheduled for two Place 3 hopefuls.

Results show mayoral hopeful Karen Hunt with 1,587 votes against opponent Marsha Tunnell with 1,310 votes. Council Place 4 looks to be claimed by Gary Roden with 1,763 votes against Davin Bernstein with 865 votes.

Three places will be claimed by unopposed incumbents with Bob Mahalik in Place 2 with 2,138 votes, Marvin Franklin in Place 6 with 2,109 votes and Aaron Duncan in Place 7 with 2,126 votes.

A special election will be held for Council Place 3 between Wes Mays and Greg Garcia, both of whom failed to obtain more than 50 percent of the votes. Mays held 40 percent with 1,062 votes and Garcia held 37 percent with 975 votes. Opponents included Margaret Lucyk with 174 votes and Mahesh Guduru with 416 votes.

The runoff election for Place 3 will be held June 23. Of Coppell’s 40,000 residents, only 2,897 turned out to vote.
