Tips for preventing the flu

by Caitlin Conner
Staff Writer

Flu season is in full swing and many students are feeling its effects. These simple steps can help students avoid the flu and stay in school.

1.Most importantly, wash your hands. Hum “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” or another short tune to ensure that you have washed your hands long enough. Hand sanitizer is an effective way to kill germs if you cannot access a bathroom to wash your hands. Clorox wipes are also a good way to disinfect things you often touch in your home and your car.

2.Drink lots of water to help flush out your system. Drinking orange juice once a day can also help boost your immune system with the vitamins and minerals it needs.

3.It seems obvious but try to avoid sneezers and coughers and don’t touch your eyes, nose or mouth. If you do feel like you are getting sick, cover your mouth and nose when you are coughing and sneezing.

4.Eat nutritious food, get plenty of sleep, exercise and manage your stress to stay healthy and flu-free
