On April 7, Coppell girls golf claimed the UIL District 5-6A championship, marking its fourth consecutive district title.
The comeback was challenging, as Coppell trailed 10 strokes after shooting a 317 for the opening round. Flower Mound led after the first round, putting pressure on the defending state champions. Coppell bounced back with a 313, while Flower Mound shot a 327 in the second round.
Coppell finished at 630, with Flower Mound shooting 634.
“The team showed resilience and grit,” Coppell girls golf coach Gary Breyer said. “Day two saw a different outcome as the team shot for a four-stroke victory.”
Strong individual rounds drove the comeback. Senior golfer Isabella Nguyen led Coppell on day two with a 73. Nguyen and senior golfer Nethra Sheri finished with a total of 157 and tied for sixth overall. Senior golfer Riya Bapna recorded a 149, finishing second after Hebron junior Delano Anderson.
The Cowgirls’ focus after the first day helped shape the outcome. Staying calm and focusing on every shot turned the tournament around.
“The girls just need to focus on the next shot to be successful,” Beyer said. “No rear view mirrors in gold. It’s counterproductive to overthink a previous hole or shot.”
The program finished third in Class 6A in 2025 and brought home championship gold in 2025. Coppell now prepares to compete at the regional tournament at Tangle Ridge Golf Club in Arlington on April 15th and 16th.
