On Tuesday, the Coppell City Council met and proclaimed Feb. 10. as “Coppell ISD National Merit Scholars Day” and recognized Coppell Fire Chief Kevin Richardson for his commitment in the fire service throughout the years.
Coppell High School students showed remarkable performance on the 2024 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
“You have such a fantastic achievement to have so many bright young people reach this level, it’s just such a testament to your family, to all your hard work, work ethic and to this community,” council member Jim Walker said. “Clearly on the right path to achieving greatness.”
Students receiving this achievement brings great honor and representation to CHS in future and past generations.
“I will say, as a graduate of Coppell High School, you guys make all of us alumni incredibly proud, and it just makes that diploma that I got over 25 years ago even more valuable,” council member Kevin Nevels said. “So thank you guys so much for all of your hard work. Your dedication to your studies.”
The meeting transitioned to the recognition of Fire Chief Kevin Richardson and his commitment to the Coppell Fire Department.
Fire Chief Kevin Richardson served in fire service for 35 years, with 33 years in Coppell and 20 years as fire chief. Richardson announced his retirement a few months ago and will officially retire this month, leaving a mark on the community.
“His career reflects not only professional achievement but a deep respect for service earned one step at a time,” Texas State Representative Cassandra Hernandez. “The friendship and the relationships that you established in this committee will certainly be a legacy that you leave behind.”
Richardson’s long lasting connection with the council will remain with him after his services and emphasizes that Coppell’s needs will be handled in future years with the leadership of the council.
“We’ve come a long way over the years, developing great relationships with each and every one of them. I’m going to miss them all,” Richardson said. “The city has a great future and you’re in really good hands.”
