With snow and ice becoming an annual issue for Texas, we need more hobbies to keep us busy. Whether you are a binge watcher or an artist, there’s always something you can do while still keeping warm.
DIYing clothing is always a good idea. If you have a shirt that you do not wear often, you can easily refresh it with paint. Tracing or freehanding a design onto your clothes is very quick, and it is more resourceful than buying something brand new.
If you are designing a shirt, make sure to put a piece of cardboard inside the shirt while painting so it does not bleed through. When using jeans or denim, you may have to use fabric paint since regular paint can wash off easily on that material.
On the topic of DIY, any art form is a good hobby. Expressing yourself creatively has no limits. You can doodle in a notebook, or create a full universe with unique characters of your own. Painting is extremely therapeutic and simple. No matter your skill set, you can create something that you are passionate about.
Reading is a great hobby no matter what the weather is, but it is extra special when it is cold and you have a warm drink in hand. I would recommend The Midnight Library by Matt Haig, Radio Silence by Alice Oseman, Unwind by Neal Shusterman and The Ocean at The End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman.
Cold weather and music mix together perfectly. Conan Gray and Billie Eillish have great winter-esque music. Listening to vinyls and CDs are also perfect for winter weather. There is a special sense of comfort in listening to music in different ways.
Binge watching shows is amazing when you are huddled up in blankets. Some binge worthy shows are “Stranger Things”, “Brooklyn 99”, “Abbott Elementary” and “Arcane.” Each of these shows have different themes and vibes to fit every kind of person. “Stranger Things” is thrilling and nostalgic. “Brooklyn 99” and “Abbott Elementary” combine realistic days as a teacher or cop with humor. “Arcane” is an animated, dystopian story with family dynamics and dangerous circumstances.
Hobbies bring joy to everyone. Even when it’s freezing, you can still find some warmth in activities you love. Stay warm and creative.
