The Coppell girls wrestling team delivered a top-notch performance at the Coppell Quad meet on Friday.

The Cowgirls swept Wolfforth Frenship (58-18), Haltom (72-12) and Flower Mound Marcus (75-6).

Senior Hailey Kennedy won her match against Frenship by major decision,13-2, in the 120-weight class, the only Cowgirl to win a major decision all night.

Assistant coach Maxine Sturch said seeing the entire team growth stood out, but especially in the younger girls.

“Seeing the younger girls step up and know that it’s OK to have a hard match and it’s OK to get tired,” Struch said. “But they can still wrestle and win.”

Junior Laura Lucio stepped in as the varsity starter, after an injury from another teammate and freshman Laura Han who is developing her experiences.

“Isabella Malcolm and Elizabeth Cummings have been consistent all season,” Sturch said. “All the pieces are coming together where you are seeing them wrestling in a good position.”

Going into the next few competitions, Struch said the focus is preparing for district, region and state competition.

“We have to keep building up confidence and win, so we can actually peek at the right time,” Struch said. “We have less than three weeks and our goal is to put it all together at the right time.”

Junior Binitta Nitto ended the night 2-1 in her matches.

“I am going into districts on my A game and sticking to what I know,” Nitto said.
