In the bright lights of Friday pep rallies and rowdy football games, the Coppell Lariettes officers stand out with a strong essence, shining from the field by showcasing their synchronized routines and setting the standard for the team.
This year, senior captain Avery Schafer, senior lieutenants Copper Burgy and Sara Joe, and junior lieutenants Makena Carroll and Laura Todd build the team’s legacy by helping everyone feel included. By welcoming others, acting as helpful leaders and participating in school-spirited events sponsored by local venues, the officers create a unified environment.
“It is such a positive and encouraging energy where we can all be ourselves,” Carroll said.

Lieutenants are tasked with leading specific routines, organizing team activities and serving as mentors to first-year members. Together, the captain and lieutenants collaborate to address challenges and celebrate achievements throughout the team.
Carroll developed her passion for Lariettes over the years, giving her the ability to express her love for dance.
“As an officer, it’s my job to lead by example,” Caroll said. “Creating a positive environment and encouraging the team ensures everyone feels included.”
For Todd, dance has been a staple in her life since she was 5. This passion led her to try out for CHS9’s Silver Stars drill team. Due to her skill set, Todd was moved up to Lariettes and became an officer as a freshman.
“All of these girls are like my sisters,” Todd said. ”I love every single one of them and I’ve really gotten to know all of them on a personal level over the years.”
Joe was inspired to try out for the team after watching the team’s spring show during her freshman year. For her, the fostering of close-knit bonds on the team and supportive environment provides mutual support and function as one cohesive group, with each member showing their passion to evolve both on and off the dance floor.

“I love the team with all my heart,” Joe said. “Being a line officer has been a way for me to lead while doing something I love.”
Among the many roles, the line officers stand as the backbone of the drill team’s leadership group. By stepping up to serve and guide the team, setting an example for others and embodying the spirit and values of the Lariettes, they encompass all aspects of the Cowgirl spirit.
