Red and white balloons floated above the stands as the Coppell volleyball team celebrated Senior Night on Friday at CHS Arena. In their final match prior to District 5-6A play, the Cowgirls swept Life High School Waxahachie,3-0 (25-12, 25-8, 25-15) .
Mustangs started off with two kills from Senior outside Olivia McCAnn. However, the Coppell senior setter Emma Pehl quickly brought points on the scoreboard with aces, setting the tone for the game.
The Cowgirls operated with strong offensive attacks putting pressure on Mustang’s defense forcing a time out to break the momentum at 20-12. Coppell senior middle blocker Zoe Olson, closed the first set with a kill for a 25-12 win.
Continuing the momentum from the first set, the Cowgirls closed out rallies quickly with kills and aces to take the second set 25-8.
The Cowgirls performance reflected the work they put in during practice.
“We worked with our hitters, mixing up their shots, hitting hard, rolling, just to increase the range of what they can do and the range of their shots,” Coppell assistant coach Erin Kauffman said.

With District 5-6A Cowgirls introduced new rotations and mixed up the lineup during the match.
“It was also Senior Night and so it gave us an opportunity to play all of our seniors,” Kauffman said. “It gave the seniors who don’t get that much time to enjoy their time on their court.”
Mustangs freshman middle blocker Christen William blocked Cowgirl middle blocker Finley Penninman at the net. But, the Cowgirls continued attacking, closing the set at 25-15.
It was a night to remember for Coppell seniors.
“Coach (Robyn Ross) wanted this to be a celebration of us, and that’s exactly what she made it,” Coppell senior outside hitter Anaya Osowal said. “She made it such a special night for all of us, and I’m forever grateful that she gave us the opportunity to all play together”
