On Wednesday, Coppell High School opened its doors to the 2025-26 school year after two-and-a-half months of summer break. Starting at 8 a.m., students roam around in search of their classes, as faculty eagerly aid learners. 

Principal Laura Springer awaits with a familiar smile in the main hall, embracing students on their first day back.  

“I hope every single student on our first day of school at CHS gets to be seen by a teacher or by somebody in the building, and that they are recognized,” Springer said. “To me, the most important thing is all of my students.”

According to Springer, there are around 3,100 students on campus. 

“CHS9 was so small, and CHS is really big,” sophomore Athena Shajin said. “I’ll meet a lot of new people.”

At CHS, the first day is not just for new students; this category includes fresh faculty members as well. Among them was CTE Business, Marketing and Finance teacher Chris Granados, who comes to Coppell from East Lake High School in El Paso.

“East Lake High was a great school, but there were some things that did not happen,” Granados said. “There were a lot of promises that they didn’t keep, but I don’t feel that here at CHS.”

Springer emphasizes socialization for this coming year by taking into account the volume of new and returning students on the first day.

“Meet people and find new friends. Sometimes it does not mean you give up your old friends, but there are so many people in this building that you can relate to,” Springer said. “Enjoy my teachers, because they’re going to love you, care about you, be there for you and grow you.”
