The Coppell ISD Board of Trustees awarded the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Patriotic Employer Awards to CISD staff members who have shown exemplary skills in leadership and community building at Monday’s meeting.
Coppell High School Principal Laura Springer, assistant principal Anna Wanderski and other district leaders were presented with the award by retired Col. James Hogan, vice president of ESGR Texas.
“These people have made many personal sacrifices in their lives, making a difference in the lives of folks they are helping to protect and serve,” Hogan said. “That’s a value that we hold dearly and it drives what we do, and that goes beyond just those who are in uniform.”
CISD has been nominated for the Pro Patriot Freedom Award, a national award that selects 15 public entities to represent the state of Texas.
“It’s the highest of awards and it’s a testament to the culture of the school district,” Texas ESGR community chairman Rick Noreiga said. “It’s a privilege to have these men and women who serve on our team, and it’s important for us to remember that we wouldn’t be living in this wonderful country if we didn’t have men and women always protecting and serving us.”
Bond project manager and interim chief operations officer Sid Grant shared updates regarding construction of the CHS fine arts building. Delays in construction have pushed the completion to Oct. 24.
Additionally, plans have been made to replace 75% of the CHS main building’s top roof layer, which is approximately 290,000 square feet and will cost $6 million.
“We have revised our estimates for these projects, and can now say that we are officially in a positive financial territory,” Grant said. “Unless there’s a big surprise, we’ll be able to complete all the projects that we promised.”
Coppell Band received an invitation to perform at the 2026 St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Dublin, Ireland during spring break. The seven-day itinerary will include sightseeing around Ireland for students in addition to performing in the parade.
Coppell Cheer was recognized for making history, becoming National Cheerleading Association national champions for both the JV and varsity divisions.
“That’s the first time in CHS history that two teams have won and it’s a gigantic accomplishment,” Superintendent Dr. Brad Hunt said. “It doesn’t just happen with a lot of energy, but it happens with hard work and the direction of our amazing coaches.”
