As the clock counts down the fourth quarter, the Coppell Cowgirls basketball team tighten their defense to pull out of a tie and secure the 52-43 victory in front of an energized home crowd.
The Cowgirls (District 5-6A) opened the game with fire, dominating both ends of the court, the drive allowing them to lead an impressive 20-4 against the Lewisville Farmers (District 0-11A).
What started as a commanding lead, Coppell began to unravel in the second quarter tying the game at 22, the Farmers, pushing through the Cowgirls defense, managed to make this game a close one.

“I was frustrated,” Coppell coach Ravyn Terry said. “The way we were playing defense, the way we were communicating. It allowed Lewisville to get back in the game.”
The third quarter saw neither team extend a lead. Coppell senior shooting guard Landry Sherrer scored a buzzer beater layup, allowing Coppell to cling to a 39-38 lead heading into the fourth quarter for a dramatic finish.
In the second half, junior forward Adriana Reijnen made ten free throws. A critical effort, giving her team a significant lead against the Farmers.
“Adriana really helped carry our team in the end there,” freshman point guard Avary Campbell said. “Fighting through all the fouls they gave her and pushing through was really helpful tonight.”
As the clock ticked down, the Cowgirls made critical adjustments in the fourth quarter with their defense to limit the Farmers. This improved effort proved to be a pivotal moment for the game, allowing Coppell to seal a 52-43 victory.
“We worked on closing gaps and blocking out with defense,” Terry said, “We were able to cut down the stretch in the fourth quarter and pull the win.”
As the Cowgirls walk off with this victory, they prepare to play the Braswell Bengals on Tuesday at 5:45 p.m.
“It’s always exciting,” Terry said. “Getting a district win tonight, we’re ready to fight for more. We are going to take it and move forward. We’re going to keep pushing.”
