After a loss against Boswell on Nov. 26, the Coppell girls basketball record team seeks victory against Frisco Memorial at CHS Arena at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. The Cowgirls are currently 9-6 on their season.
Senior shooting guard Landry Sherrer said that the Cowgirls’ team dynamic helped the team defeat Boswell.
“[Boswell] was a big game for us,” Sherrer said. “We were down by 20 points in the third quarter but in the fourth quarter, we closed the lead to 10 points and it was a good game.”
The Cowgirls look to reduce turnovers against Memorial after struggling against Boswell’s press.
“In practice, we do live ball turnovers and reset the score to zero, so there isn’t a ‘don’t turn over the ball’ kind of mindset,” Sherrer said. “We are going to try and play like a test and play like we trust each other like we did in the fourth quarter against Boswell.”
Sherrer expanded on the Cowgirls’ goal to shut down Memorial junior forward Presley Powell to ensure ball pressure.
“Frisco Memorial has solid players all around,” Sherrer said. “But they run everything through one player. We will key in on applying strong ball pressure, as they all prefer to go right.”
With the nondistrict games coming to an end, this is one of the last chances to improve Coppell’s dynamic within each other.
“I am looking forward to another opportunity to play, especially this being our next game after Boswell,” Sherrer said. “As a team, we’ve gained confidence, and that’s really going to help us when facing teams that we know are good and talented, while also recognizing that we are a capable and talented team ourselves.”
